Where the money should go

Processor

Clock speed counts as much as cores for H.264 and H.265 playback. Intel Core Ultra suits Premiere. Ryzen X3D suits editors who game.

Graphics card

Resolve and most effects run on the GPU. Aim for 12GB of graphics memory for 4K grading, 16GB or more for heavy noise reduction.

Memory

32GB for simple edits, 64GB for 4K or After Effects alongside Premiere. Capacity matters more than speed.

Storage

Keep the system, active media and cache on separate drives. It is the cheapest way to remove stutter.

Questions editors ask

Can I edit on a gaming PC?

Yes. The parts overlap. An editing build usually adds more memory, extra NVMe drives and a processor chosen for long renders.

Nvidia or AMD graphics?

Nvidia is our default. Resolve, Premiere and most plug-ins support its encoders and CUDA best. Check your software before choosing AMD.

How much memory do I need?

32GB for 1080p, 64GB for 4K, and 128GB for 6K, RAW or heavy After Effects work.

Can I upgrade it later?

Yes. We choose cases, power supplies and motherboards with room for more memory, storage and a bigger graphics card.
